CIRTL - Developing Professional Skill Sets in Communities and Networks - Webinar

03-23-2021 12:00 PM

Navigating your professional communities and academic networks can take a lot of work, especially if you’re a graduate student who is new to both of these spaces. In this event, we will explore the types of skills, which many graduate students already have, that help you navigate these professional spaces: managing up, identifying mentors, building support networks, and more. In addition to helping you understand and explore communities and networks, these skills can help you succeed in different career paths once you understand how they translate. By the end of this session, you will be able to identify the roles you plan in various communities, and how those roles relate to specific professional skills. In addition, you will be able to develop your own mentor network map, identify the skills you have that will help you develop your network, and build your confidence to do this work.

This event is the third in our four-part series "Exploring and Unpacking Post-PhD Career Possibilities: Recognizing and Articulating the Value of What You've Learned as a Graduate Student."
