CIRTL - Science Communication for Any Audience

03-29-2018 11:00 AM

The ability to communicate the impact and importance of one’s research to a wide variety of audiences is a crucial skill for professional development. In this three-part workshop, participants will explore key concepts and strategies in science communication, focusing on both spoken and written messages. This workshop is designed for CIRTL graduate students, postdocs, and junior faculty who wish to improve their communication skills when connecting with general/public audiences, students, and fellow scholars whose technical expertise is in a different discipline or research area (e.g., when communicating research in job talks, journal manuscripts, conference presentations, etc.).

Workshop Schedule This workshop has three online sessions, at 12-1:15PM ET / 11AM-12:15PM CT / 10-11:15AM MT / 9-10:15AM PT on Thursday, March 29, April 5, and April 12.

Workload Participants will be expected to develop a 2-3 minute elevator pitch in which they describe one or more research projects, and the importance/impact of those projects, in language accessible to both technical and non-technical audiences.
