In this joint CELT/VET MED presentation, Locke Karriker, Professor and Gustafson Chair for Teaching Excellence, Veterinary Diagnostic and Production Animal Medicine, shares how he brings the farm into his 90-student food-animal classroom. Professor Karriker's student-centered approach structures concepts and focuses on nurturing the thought process presenting students with problems they've got to think their way out of, rather than relying only on references. In this session, learn how to help new critical thinkers work past frustration and support them as they discover their knowledge and abilities are up to the task.

Participants will leave this session with strategies to foster conceptual, messy, real-world problem-solving and empower students to take charge of their own learning.
